Assistant Chief Michael J. Seber joined the Department as a Patrol Officer in May 1989 and has risen through the ranks, beginning his tenure as Assistant Chief in June 1998. Presently he oversees the Investigative Services Bureau (ISB). The ISB is made up of the Detective Division, Youth Aid Division, Vice Squad and Crime Scene Technicians. Additionally, he also oversees the Special Operation Squad (SWAT).
During his tenure as Assistant Chief he has overseen the Field Services Bureau, which included the Patrol Division, Directed Patrol Unit and Community Policing Unit; and the Administrative Services Bureau, which includes management of the Departments budget, grants and personnel.
Assistant Chief Seber is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, session 197. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, New York State Chiefs of Police, FBI National Academy Associates, Northeastern Chiefs of Police, Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network (MAGLOCLEN) and International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association.
Assistant Chief Seber has received numerous awards during his career as well as the U.S Department of Justice Award for Public Service regarding “Victims Justice”. He is a life long resident of the City of Schenectady.
