Schenectady Police are continuing their investigation into the August 22,
attack of a 58 year adult female resident on Hulett Street. At approximately 3:30am the police department received a report of a female being attacked on the sidewalk by three pit bull dogs. Responding officers utilized a Taser electronic device to get the most aggressive of the dogs off of the victim at which time the other two dogs also retreated.
The dog's owner, Jasmine L. Tirado, age 21, of 347 Hulett Street came out of her home to secure the dogs. Schenectady Fire Department EMS personnel administered emergency first aid and the victim was then transported to the Albany Medical Center
Hospital for numerous injuries to her face, ears and arms. All three
surrendered to the city animal control officer. Tirado was issued appearance tickets for having one unlicensed dog as well as three separate tickets for harboring dangerous dogs. The charges are returnable in city court on September 12,
Two of the three dogs were euthanized and samples secured for rabies testing by the state health department. The third dog is confined to an animal shelter for the mandatory ten day rabies observation period at which time that animal will also be euthanized.
The victim has undergone medical treatment at Albany Medical Center and is expected to survive.
