A 16-year-old Schenectady teen has been arrested for his role in a home invasion that occurred at about 1:30 Monday morning at 1541 State Street.

A 24-year-old woman was sleeping in the residence with her 3 young children when she heard a knock at her door. When the woman opened the door slightly to see who was there, 5 men (4 black and 1 possibly Hispanic) forced their way in. The men – all of whom were armed with handguns – were looking for the woman’s boyfriend who wasn’t there at the time. The men held her and her children at gunpoint while they looked around the residence. After not locating the boyfriend, the group left and the woman called police. She and her children were not injured in the incident.

A short time later, Officers Darren Lawrence and Christopher Scaccia were on patrol when they observed a vehicle with 5 male occupants turn onto Duane from Brandywine and stop in front of The Duane Lounge. When the officers pulled behind the vehicle, one of the occupants got out and ran, and the vehicle sped away. The officers chased the subject on foot down Snell Street and into a backyard, but lost him. However, they located a boot and winter hat along the route the subject ran. Canine officer Helen Reedy and her dog Cinta responded to the scene and began tracking the subject. While tracking through a yard that the subject had run through, K9 Cinta located a handgun on the ground. K9 Cinta continued tracking into the nearby Auto Zone parking lot, past several parked cars and underneath another parked car. The subject the officers had been chasing was hiding underneath that car and was taken into custody. He was wearing only one boot at the time.

Christopher Morgan, of 862 Eastern Avenue, has been charged with Burglary-1st degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon-3rd degree and Resisting Arrest.

The other 4 subjects involved in the home invasion have not been located. The incident appears to be drug-related. The investigation is continuing.

Morgan is being held at the Schenectady County Jail.
