SUBJECT:Man Arrested for Rape of Child


Today at 12:15 PM, Schenectady Police Youth Aid Detectives responded to 164 A Jerry Street to investigate the rape of a fourteen-year-old girl that occurred in December 2003. After Detectives were allowed into the dwelling, the suspect fled the apartment through a second floor window. He was apprehended three minutes later a short distance from the apartment.

Information that prompted the rape investigation was relayed to Schenectady Police Detectives through the New York State child abuse hotline. Through the course of the investigation, Detectives learned that, as a result of the rape, the victim, now fifteen, became pregnant and gave birth to a child.

Ralph White, 39, of 1060 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, has been charged with the following crimes:

* Second Degree Rape (D Felony)
* Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor)
* Endangering the Welfare of A Child (A Misdemeanor)

White is currently being held by the Schenectady Police Department and is being treated for injuries sustained while jumping from a second story window at the Jerry Street apartment. He will be arraigned tomorrow morning in Schenectady City Court.
