SUBJECT:112 TICKETS ISSUED DURING 3-DAY SCHOOL ZONE INITIATIVE

The 3-day school zone traffic safety initiative that was conducted last week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (September 7th-9th) resulted in 112 tickets being issued.

The “zero tolerance” initiatives were concentrated around the City’s schools and were funded through a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. 102 tickets were issued for speeding and 10 for passing a stopped school bus.

Chief of Police Michael Geraci said: “The beginning of the school year brings a significant increase in pedestrian and vehicular traffic around our schools. Our enforcement efforts are intended to increase public awareness and encourage motorists to drive more safely that will hopefully continue throughout the year.”

These initiatives will also be conducted randomly throughout the school year.
