As a result of the investigation into Tuesday afternoon’s accident on Albany Street (near Craig St.) in which an unsupervised 2-yr.-old girl was struck and injured by a large delivery truck, an arrest was made a short time ago.

23-yr.-old Sol Morales of 1168 Hilderbrandt Avenue, Schenectady, has been charged with “Endangering the Welfare of a Child,” a misdemeanor.

Morales was babysitting 2-yr.-old Angelica Quinones (of Yates Village, Schenectady) when the accident occurred. Morales drove her car (occupied by Angelica, her 6-yr.-old brother, her infant sister, and Morales’ 7-yr.-old son) to the Albany Street hair salon where Angelica’s mother was working, and parked along Albany St. Morales was bringing the infant inside the salon and told the other children to stay inside the car. While Morales was inside the salon, Angelica got herself out of her child seat and one of the other children opened a car door. Angelica then exited the car and ran into Albany Street where she was struck by the truck driven by Paul Julien of Dolgeville.

Angelica sustained head and face injuries, was treated at the scene by Schenectady Fire Department paramedics, and then transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. She is currently still there. Although the hospital has not given us an official update on her condition, family members have advised us that Angelica is doing much better and was walking around today.

Morales was released and is scheduled to appear in Police Court tomorrow morning.

Julien was not at fault in the accident and will not be charged.

This investigation was conducted – and the arrest made – by Ptl. Kenny Figueroa.
