SUBJECT:MAN ARRESTED FOR EARLY MORNING STABBING Ė VICTIM CRITICAL


A 26-year-old homeless man has been arrested for stabbing a 49-year-old man inside a Union Street apartment at about 3:30 this morning.

Wayne Rhodes went to 408 Union Street to see the victimís (James Burditt) female roommate. The 3 of them smoked crack cocaine together. Rhodes was allowed to sleep over and when he thought Burditt and the woman were asleep, he attempted to steal crack that hadnít yet been smoked. Burditt caught Rhodes and an altercation ensued. During the altercation, Rhodes grabbed a steak knife and stabbed Burditt several times in the upper torso and hands, and also slashed his throat. Rhodes then ran from the apartment. He was apprehended 2 blocks away at Liberty Street and Clinton Avenue.

Burditt was treated at the scene by Schenectady Fire Department paramedics and airlifted to Albany Medical Center. He is currently in critical condition.

Rhodes is charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree. He was arraigned in Police Court this morning and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail.
