SUBJECT:MAN SHOT INSIDE CONVENIENCE STORE DIES

Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old Schenectady man that occurred at about 6:15 this evening inside the State Street Market convenience store at 780 State Street.

Jason French, of 806 Broadway, was a customer inside the store when a black male entered and shot him once in his right side with an unknown firearm. French collapsed to the floor and the shooter ran from the store in an unknown direction. French was treated at the scene by Schenectady Fire Department paramedics and transported to Ellis Hospital where he died shortly after arriving.

Employees that were inside the store at the time of the shooting were not injured.

The only description of the shooter at this time is that he is a black male who was wearing a black coat.

The circumstances of the shooting are not known at this time.
