SUBJECT:MAN SOUGHT IN CUTLER STREET SHOOTING DEATH CAPTURED

The 22-year-old Central Bridge man wanted for questioning in the October 16th shooting death of a Schenectady man that occurred at 1018 Cutler Street has been captured in Arizona.

U. S. Marshals apprehended Darshan Williams yesterday afternoon at the Casa Grande residence of his cousin’s girlfriend.

Williams shot 28-year-old Robert Powell once in the chest with a shotgun during a party attended by several people and killed him. The reason for the shooting is still unknown.

Believing that Williams fled the area after the shooting, detectives enlisted the help of the Marshals who tracked Williams to Arizona where his cousin lives.

Williams is currently being held at a Maricopa County jail. He has waived extradition and will be transported back to Schenectady by the Marshals, although the date of his return is not yet scheduled.

Chief Michael Geraci stated, “We are very grateful to the U. S. Marshals for assisting us in this investigation and for their tireless efforts to capture our fugitive. This arrest is another example of how we will use every available resource to capture people who commit violent crimes in Schenectady and then flee. If we can identify a suspect, we will eventually find them.”
