The Schenectady Police Department has begun an initiative to recruit individuals to take the police entrance exam that will be given on Saturday, December 2nd.

Beginning today, teams of officers will visit 10 Capital Region colleges and several community meetings in the City to distribute test applications and information. The deadline to submit applications is Tuesday, October 24th.

It is anticipated that approximately 10 officers will be hired in 2007. Academy training is 26 weeks long followed by 13 weeks of Department field training.

In order to take the exam, applicants must be New York State residents who are at least 19-years-old but not yet 35 (up to 6 years deducted for military duty), have a high school diploma and 30 college credits within 45 days after the exam.
