Detectives are investigating the death of a woman who was found slumped behind the wheel of a minivan in the rear parking lot of the Price Chopper supermarket on Eastern Parkway late this afternoon.

At about 3:30, a St. Clare’s Hospital security guard was patrolling the hospital’s rear parking lot when he observed the van parked at an unusual angle in the southeast corner of Price Chopper’s property where it adjoins St. Clare’s property, and saw an unresponsive woman slumped behind the wheel. Schenectady Fire Department paramedics responded and determined that the woman was dead.

It is unknown when the woman – a white female who appears to be in her late 20’s or early 30’s – died. There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body and the circumstances of her death are unknown at this time.

It is anticipated that an autopsy will be conducted sometime this weekend.
