SUBJECT:CITY TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL NIGHT OUT ON TUESDAY
Schenectady residents are invited to join the Schenectady Police Department and Schenectady Neighborhood Watch at the 24th annual National Night Out gathering in Bellevue’s Hillhurst Park beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6th.
The event will feature swimming, free food and beverages, a bike safety course for children that will include helmet giveaways, Operation Safe Child in which parent’s can have their children’s pictures and fingerprints taken, and much more.
Mayor Brian Stratton, Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett and Police Chief Michael Geraci are expected to join the festivities at 7 p.m.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for – and participation in – local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Schenectady residents are asked to turn on their outside lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors.
The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, and will involve over 9,800 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canada, and military bases around the world. More than 33 million people worldwide are expected to participate.
