SUBJECT:COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCES DANIEL DIAMONDíS RETURN TO DUTY
Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett announces that Daniel Diamond was officially returned to duty with the Department on Monday, August 6th after completing a 30-day suspension without pay in connection with violations of Department rules and regulations relating to his previous duty assignment with the Vice Squad. In addition to his suspension, Diamond has been reduced in rank to Patrolman which is permanent for the remainder of his career with the Department.
After reviewing all of the facts obtained during the internal investigation, Commissioner Bennett concluded that Officer Diamond did not engage in any criminal acts, nor were his failures related in any manner to the misconduct of former detective Jeffrey Curtis. The violations that Officer Diamond is charged with involved failure to comply with policies and procedures regarding evidence management. Officer Diamond has taken responsibility for his actions which did not rise to a level that warranted termination proceedings. He is genuinely apologetic for the negative attention his actions brought on the Department, and is fully cognizant of his professional obligations as a police officer in the future.
The Department considers this matter closed and will have no further comment.
