SUBJECT:MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE OF 12 YEAR - OLD


A 26 year-old city man has been arrested for the attempted rape of a twelve-year old girl after forcing her into Vale Park from Eastern Avenue yesterday afternoon.

At 5:10 pm yesterday, Schenectady Police Officers were investigating a report of a missing child who had been seen earlier with an unknown older male in the Eastern Avenue area. While investigating the complaint, Officers checked the north side of Vale Park and soon observed two subjects believed to be the child and the suspect. As Officers approached, the suspect fled, leaving the victim and a bicycle behind. Police cordoned off the area and conducted a thorough search, but were unable to locate the suspect. At approximately 7:30 pm, with police still on the scene, the suspect returned to retrieve the bicycle. He was quickly taken into custody.

Chester L. Williamson, 26, of 1234 Donnan Avenue, Schenectady, is charged with the following crimes:

* First Degree Attempted Rape (C Felony)
* First Degree Sexual Abuse (D Felony)
* Second Degree Unlawful Imprisonment (A Misdemeanor)
* Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor)

Williamson is currently being held at the Schenectady Police lockup, pending a late morning arraignment.
