SUBJECT: Burglary / Arson @ 1809 Broadway
Schenectady Police Detectives have completed their investigation into a September 30, 2003 early morning burglary and arson at 1809 Broadway. Arrested and charged with one count each of 3rd Degree Arson and 2nd Degree Burglary, both felonies, are:
• Joshua M. Coppolo, 19, 1659 Broadway, Schenectady
• James T. Tedeschi, 19, 487 Waite Rd., Rexford
Through their investigation, Detectives learned Coppolo was acquainted with the burglary victim and knew the resident would not be home at the time of the burglary. After unlawfully entering the dwelling, Coppolo and Tedeschi stole jewelry, clothing, and electronics. The pair left, but later returned to destroy any evidence that may have been left behind. An accelerant was used in the course of the arson to facilitate the destruction of the structure. The building sustained extensive damage.
Both were arraigned this morning in Schenectady City Court. Coppollo’s bail was set at $40,000.00. Tedeschi was remanded to the County Jail without bail.
