SUBJECT:Arrests Made Following String of Area Burglaries

Schenectady Police have arrested two individuals responsible for a series of area burglaries that occurred from Saturday, October 26, 2003 through Wednesday, October 29, 2003. Arrested and charged in connection with the crimes that occurred in the city are:

Christopher M. Shambo, 23, 336 Glengary Road, Rotterdam

Matthew J. Yanas, 42, 222 Van Buren St., Schenectady

Shambo and Yanas were each charged with one count of First Degree Robbery, a B Felony, after participating in a robbery early on October 26 at the 838 McClellan Street Getty Mart. In that incident, the clerk was threatened with a crowbar before the cash register was forcibly taken.

In addition to the robbery charge both men face, Shambo is charged with one count of Third Degree Burglary, a D Felony, after smashing a glass door, entering the building and stealing merchandise from the closed Capital Sunoco Station, 2501 Albany St. early Monday, October 27, 2003.

Police from Colonie, Niskayuna, and Rotterdam are investigating similar crimes Shambo and Yanas may be responsible for in those jurisdictions.
