SUBJECT:SPD Conducts Underage Drinking Initiative

On Friday Oct. 30th, members of the Schenectady Police Department’s Traffic Division along with members of the New York State Police in conjunction with the Schenectady County Stop DWI Program, joined together to carry out an Underage Drinking Initiative in the City of Schenectady.

The teams of officers visited 48 stores within the City that are permitted to sell alcohol. Of the 48 stores that were tested, 5 sold alcohol to the underage students that were assisting the officers with this initiative. The stores in violation were;
Englebarts Liquor at 511 Union Street
Thrisha’s Grocery at 1685 Van Vranken Ave.
Rite Aid at 1936 Van Vranken Ave
Kingra’s Service Station at 2470 Albany Street
Get and Go Deli & Market at 1848 Watt Street

The Clerks at each of these stores were charged with one count of Unlawfully Dealing with a Minor and one count of Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor.

Each of the stores will have State Liquor Authority referrals filed against them. The clerks of each of these stores are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 4th.

The Schenectady Police Department would like to thank and recognize the 43 stores that were tested within the City and were in compliance.
