SUBJECT: Arrest Made Following Steinmetz Deli Armed Robbery

At approximately 8:05 PM tonight, the Schenectady Police Department received a 911 call from a Steinmetz Deli clerk reporting the 1848 Watt Street business was robbed at gunpoint. As the clerk gave a description of the perpetrator to police dispatchers, officers responded to the scene and soon observed a suspect fitting the description given by the victim. With the assistance of Rotterdam Police and the New York State Police, officers cordoned off an area where the suspect was last seen. A State Police canine team then searched the area and located the suspect, who was taken into police custody.

William Terry Johnson, 18, of 314 Michigan Avenue, Schenectady, has been charged with one count of First Degree Robbery, a B Felony. Johnson is being held at the Schenectady Police Department, pending a Saturday morning arraignment. An undetermined amount of cash was taken during the robbery. No injuries were reported to police.
