At about 6:30 this morning, a man wearing a ski mask entered the Getty Mart at 2248 Broadway, jumped over the counter, pointed a small black handgun at the female clerk and demanded money from the safe. The clerk told the robber that the key to the safe was in her car that was parked in the lot. He instructed her to retrieve it and followed her to her car. While they were outside, the clerk started yelling for help, at which time the robber ran away. He did not get any money.

At about 6:50 a.m., patrol officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description walking on Broadway near Twelfth Street. He was positively identified as the robber by the clerk.

Chad E. Andrews, 17, of 110˝ Prospect Street, Schenectady, has been charged with Robbery-1st degree. He was arraigned in Police Court and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail.

The weapon has not been recovered.
