SUBJECT:POLICE INITIATIVE IN WOODLAWN NATURE PRESERVE
In response to numerous complaints from Woodlawn residents – and to prevent further damage to the Woodlawn nature preserve – the Department will begin an enforcement initiative inside the nature preserve.
This initiative will target all unauthorized activity inside the preserve, including trespassing, littering, use of any motorized vehicles, use of firearms, open fires, alcohol and drug consumption, and illegal dumping.
NYS Environmental Conservation Police and Amtrak Police will be assisting in the initiative.
The preserve is posted with “no trespassing” signs, and a zero-tolerance approach will be taken toward violators. Violators face arrest and penalties of up to $1,000 and 15 days in jail. Violators operating motorized vehicles face additional Vehicle & Traffic Law charges, as well as towing and impound fees.
